It is not my intention to denigrate Saudi Arabia or its people. It’s like everywhere else, there is good and there is bad. I would rather focus on the unusual and the humourous. Offence is not intended.

Politics
“The country is not perfect. The media cannot be trusted, mistreatment of religious minorities is common and there are some that live in fear.” You can decide for yourself whether that statement is about Saudi Arabia, the UK, or any country for that matter.

To quote the Joker, “Why can’t we all just get along?”

That is all I will say about either subject.

T For Two

Thanks to Alwan for sending me this fantastic photograph which was apparently taken at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry here in Saudi Arabia.

T for Two
The sign on the wall may or may not have been added by me…

But seriously, who built this?? In a country where married couples can't walk hand in hand, who believed that two Saudi men would enjoy sitting next to each other whilst answering the call of nature? In my experience most Arab men don't even like to use urinals (even when they aren't in a thobe).
So what did they imagine would happen?

Two men squatting side by side on the toilets.
Man one: …and I'd advise waiting until the stock hits around 2 riyals before you sell it.
Man two: Well the market indicates, oh hang on… uhhhhhh uh huuuuuuuunnnnhh uh uh huuuuuuh huh huh. Phew… As I was saying, the market indicates that…
Man one subtly wraps his ghutra over his nose.

I think not.

A very funny photo.. But, this can't be in any Chamber of Commerce in this country! (I wonder how u came to believe such a thing)... I think this is in a jail or something of that sort..

True. This does'nt look like Riyadh at all.

If you despise every second thing abt KSA and mock at the culture, social values and general social ambience every now and then...wonder why do u stay here at all?

Ofcourse you have planted your butt here for your personal gains..

I wonder why always those who want to attack chose to stay anonymous?

There must be a psychological reason behind it!

Hey guys don't rush. This bathroom was not built the way you see it right now. I know where it is and I know its complete story. This bathroom is for one of the mosques on Qasseem highway and there was a barrier between the two sinks that had been removed before the picture was taken . The room was under construction and the aluminium fence was removed. The gas station that has this bathroom is my cousin's.

If you're trying to insult the sensitivities of a culture, you've done a fine job.

Seriously now, it's 2007, do you expect us to believe this toilet is in the Commerce building, and that Riyadhi's share side by side toilets?

Ironically, I find the toilets in the M.E. much cleaner than in the west, with attendants usually on staff cleaning them constantly.

They even hand us paper towels after we wash our hands!

Seriously, My wife has been disgusted many times from entering Toilets for women. It may be that the male toilets are looked after more than women.

Some touchy people here...
That toilet is nothing. I went to Guangzhou football stadium in China to the worst toilet in the world. A dank pit with a trough running through the middle that you squat over. No cubicle walls, no sinks, no nothing. I walked in and there were three policeman squatting in a row with their pants round their ankles! So after my distinct alarm over the state of the toilets, I couldn't help chuckling at the picture they made. I could never take Chinese policeman seriously after that!

If you want a picture that says a thousand words and inshallah would generate some action get someone to take a photo of one of the public -female- toilets on the roadway between Riyadh and Mecca. I'm a seasoned traveler but found I personally prefered going out to the desert before using the public toilets especially if the timing is near or around Ramadan and Hajj when traffic is heaviest.

And before anyone can say anything the same things would happen likely anywhere else in the world when there is a major holiday generating lots of traffic or some other kind of significant event with limited public toilets.

If you think this was a regular bathroom, you're a retard, purely.

Silly you.

loooooooool

this is really funny .....

I agree that bathrooms in stations between cities are not clean --- but in cities and modern buildings it could be luxurous

in the uk, the worst thing that could happen to me , is needing toilet in public --- I prefer using the shared toilet ^_^ -- but I know that it is not real and the partition was removed before taking the photo

cheers

Great humour.

I'm Saudi and I've never seen such a thing. I laughed my ass off when I saw it.

Perhaps if you had the least knowledge about Saudis and there religion you would've known that shared bathrooms are religiously forbidden.

With all due respect, don't run around here and there acting as if you know something about Saudi Arabia.

The so called "family section" sign was clearly added by a computer because, as one can see, if it was truly a sign on the wall it would've been sloped downwards so as to have the edges of the sign appear to slightly tilt inward when going down.

In this pic, the tile behind the "sign" tilts inward while sign itself looks like someone took a frontal picture of it.

Obviously the toilet is in some gas station on a highway between cities that is under construction and the wall in the middle was removed..

but why would you say that it is in Riyadh Chamber of Commerce?!
this is the link to Riyadh Chamber of Commerce: http://www.riyadhchamber.com/indexen.phpi
does it look like a building that would have such a restroom?

you claim that it is not your intention to denigrate Saudi Arabia or its people, so why lie?
it is a funny picture but as a joke .. why claim that it is reality..
especially when it is Islamicly forbidden to share toilets so it is contrary to reality.
